    About Whitney Parker

My name is Whitney and I am a mixed media abstract artist. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area with my husband and our 3.5 year old daughter. Moving around the country over the last 15 years has brought a unique perspective to my art and the way I approach things. I have always had a tendency to internalize, not expressing my deepest feelings outwardly. Art has become a cathartic outlet for me, one in which I can release and be vulnerable with myself. The act of creating pulls emotions out of me and onto the canvas.

Being in California, much of my inspiration comes from nature. The environment and sustainability are a big part of my life, so it plays a significant role in my work. I am surrounded by vast mountain ranges, morning fog that rolls in over the hills and sunset beaches - all of which take my breath away on a daily basis.

My background is rooted in fashion design with a focus on bridal. After graduating from Savannah College of Art and Design, I moved to New York City to work as a wedding gown designer.  I have been in the bridal sector for most of my career, which is where the sewing element in my work comes from.

The process in this collaboration was such a wonderful exploration of creativity. Using the art that Jamie had painted, I listened to the movement that was already there and let it guide me. I began deconstructing her pieces by cutting and burning the edges. Combining different textures and paper finishes, I created abstract layouts that spoke to the beauty of the original pieces. I am so excited to present this truly one-of-a-kind mini collection!
